OSTEOPATHIC MANIPULATIVE MEDICINE

OMM Department Vision Statement

Our mission is to help students to think osteopathically and integrate osteopathic manipulative diagnosis and treatment into the management of any patient population using the Principles of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is a reflection of Touro University’s Northern California location and embraces the diversity of its faculty and the variety of Osteopathic manipulative models taught to students. The members of the department were trained at six different colleges of Osteopathic medicine; that diverse background is reflected in our curriculum which explores the many aspects of applied osteopathic diagnosis and treatment. Practice experience of department members ranges from hospital to office practice and includes residency training in family medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation in addition to specialty level Osteopathic manipulative medicine (neuromusculoskeletal medicine).

The department is proud of its better than six to one student to faculty ratio in the laboratory courses utilizing a faculty that is 100% board certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Six OMM Predoctoral Teaching Fellows add to a faculty available to help students develop their diagnostic and treatment skills. Department members work closely with other clinical and basic science faculty to emphasize Osteopathic thinking and manipulative treatment throughout the curriculum. National, state and local Osteopathic physicians are brought to campus to work with students and expand the curricular depth still further. Individual attention and small group teaching are emphasized with a highly diverse student body drawn from across the country. The department continues to evolve with the addition of research and an expansion of the third and fourth year program.
